Autumn 2012 saw the launch of the Royal Academy’s exciting new venue for our expanded programme of art and architecture, Burlington Gardens.
We are thrilled to welcome both new and existing audiences to this historic grade II listed building immediately behind our established home on Piccadilly.

Looking ahead: revealing, celebrating and exploring the heritage of the RA
In the longer term, the Burlington Project – a masterplan for the entire Royal Academy by Sir David Chipperfield RA
– will deliver a wide range of new spaces and facilities. We will strengthen the RA’s status as a home for debate in the heart of London with the addition of a 300 seat auditorium in Burlington Gardens. We will improve accommodation for the Royal Academy Schools,
where our unrivalled three year postgraduate course nurtures the next generation of talented artists. New learning spaces, and an enhanced programme of interpretation and education designed to reveal and celebrate the RA's history. And a link will be constructed between Burlington Gardens and Burlington House enabling visitors easy access to a unified Royal Academy site.
In November 2013, we were delighted to be awarded a £12.7m grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to support Reveal, Celebrate and Explore, a major project that will transform Burlington Gardens, and enable the RA to share and interpret its heritage for a broad 21st century audience.
The Burlington Project also encompasses improvements to Burlington House. These include significant improvements to the main entrance hall, and the new Keeper’s House development
by Long and Kentish architects which opened in Autumn 2013 to provide new facilities and spaces for Friends of the Royal Academy
