Summer Exhibition Prizes

The judging panels, which change each year, include contemporary artists, architects, curators, art critics, gallerists and representatives of the prize founders.

The Royal Academy of Arts Charles Wollaston Award
£25,000 for the most distinguished work in the exhibition. Previous winners include Anselm Kiefer, Alison Wilding, Yinka Shonibare, Jeff Koons and Gavin Turk.

The Jack Goldhill Award for Sculpture
£10,000 for a sculpture. Previous winners include Rana Begum, Dae Hun Kwon, Ruth Dupre, Anthony Caro and Wilhelm Mundt.

The Sunny Dupree Family Award for a Woman Artist
£3,500 for the best painting or sculpture by a woman artist. Previous winners include Jane Harris, Cathy de Monchaux, Elizabeth Magill, Tess Jaray and Mali Morris.

The Hugh Casson Drawing Prize
£3,000 for an original work on paper in any medium, where the emphasis is clearly on drawing. Previous winners include Kenneth Draper, Cornelia Parker, Tony Bevan, David Remfry and Patrick Gilmartin.

The London Original Print Fair Prize
£2,000 for a print in any medium. Previous winners include Stephen Chambers, Katsutoshi Yuasa, Anne Desmet, Matthew Coombes and Kate Scrivener.

The Arts Club Trust Award
£2,000 for an artist aged 35 or under for a work in any medium (except architecture). The first winner of this award was Luca Perricone.

The British Institution Awards
Four prizes of £1,000 each awarded to student exhibitors for paintings, works on paper, sculpture and architecture. 2012’s winners were Rachel Alliston, Luca Perricone, Sophie Michael (£500), Jolanta Rejs (£500), Nigel Lord (£500) and Alison Pilkington (£500).

The Rose Award for Photography
£1,000 for a photograph or series of photographs. Previous winners include Peter Abrahams, Gillian Wearing, Cindy Sherman, Paul Murphy and Bridget Smith.

Lend Lease/Architects’ Journal Awards
£15,000: £10,000 for the Grand Award for architecture and £5,000 for the best work by a first-time exhibitor in the Summer Exhibition. Previous winners of the Grand Award include Saraben Studio (Ben Cowd, Thomas Hopkins and Sara Shafiel), Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects, Stephen Chilton and Eric Parry RA. Previous winners of the first-time exhibitor award include Article 25, Judy Liebert, 6A Architects and Studio Weave.
