The Artists
Toby Christian
Through an ongoing body of texts, Toby Christian describes various spaces and the objects contained within them. A distinctly detached tone of authored voice permeates the texts to describe minds-eye sequences of moving images and still compositions that segue into and away from one another. For this event, Christian will be giving a reading of ‘This Particular Lounge’, 2012.

Sophie Michael
Sophie Michael uses film and photography to colour and guide the viewer’s perception of constructed installations and found spaces. For this event, Michael presents a 16mm film projection performance ‘Looking and Seeing’, 2012. Mixing a stop motion animation which documents a 1967 picture book from front to back cover with her collection of educational film footage, Michael will respond live to a soundtrack by Blue Firth and Alex Crispin. The piece aims to draw chance connections across the material itself, in the tradition of visual music.

Carly Bateup with Beatrice Schulz
Carly Bateup’s interest in literary devices and framing is at play with the nesting of the text performance piece ‘Routine 5’. “This recounts a daily routine and is placed within her text ‘Insert your [Routine 5] text here’ that describes a performance. The performance of ‘Insert your (Routine 5) text here’ will be comprised of the two pieces being performed at the same time by the writer/ performer of ‘Routine 5’ with a cameo appearance by the artist/ writer of ‘Insert your [Routine 5] text here'”. The emphasis will be upon the recital and the performance of a description of an embedded recital.
