To mark the 25th anniversary of the London Original Print Fair, Pratt Contemporary is launching the first of what will become an annual event at the Print Fair - an Artist in Focus. Each year they will select one of their artists to be the Artist in Focus at the Fair and to give a talk about their work.
Ana Maria Pacheco is the first Artist in Focus. To coincide with the publication of new drypoints to be shown at this year’s Fair she will be in conversation with Brendan Prendeville about her new prints and the role of printmaking in her work.
Pacheco is an artist of extraordinary diversity. Primarily a sculptor, she is also a painter and printmaker. Her work has evolved from a tradition of making that lies between South American and European culture, drawing on a rich variety of cultural references. She is currently working on a series of reliefs in alabaster, bronze and wood, exploring the metaphor of the journey, a recurrent theme in her work.
Brendan Prendeville has written extensively on art and is currently on research leave from Goldsmiths, where he is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Visual Cultures.
