Win an original Kuniyoshi print

Kuniyoshi Japanese Gallery print To celebrate the Kuniyoshi exhibition, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Japanese Gallery are giving you the chance to win an original, framed Kuniyoshi print.

The print depicts a male kabuki actor performing in a theatre in Edo (now Tokyo), swinging a large axe with his right hand. The actor is depicted in an expression called "Kimegao", a typical kabuki pose used by actors in the climax point of kabuki scenes, instigated here by the dynamic stance as well as the kimegao facial expression where the eyes are crossed.

The Japanese Gallery, in London, has one of the world’s largest collections of Japanese woodblock prints for sale - from 18th C antique originals to contemporary pieces including anime manga cels, with subjects ranging from samurai, kabuki, beauties, landscapes, erotica and many more. To coincide with the exhibition at the Royal Academy, the Japanese Gallery is holding a sale exhibition of works by Kuniyoshi until the end of May 2009.
