Printmaking has been integral to Barbara’s artistic activity since her first year at Edinburgh College of Art in the early 1960s. The way she conceives and works on her monotypes, screenprints and etchings compliments and informs her approach to painting. The display largely features new monotypes inspired by her travels to Ireland and Spain. There is also a selection of works that illustrate the broad range of printing techniques she uses. This exhibition coincides with the publication of her forthcoming book (details below).

Rae was elected a Royal Academician in 1996, and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work can be found in public and private collections around the world. Rae has received numerous awards including three honorary doctorates and was made a CBE in 1999.

A fully illustrated monograph of Barbara Rae's career to date, containing over 170 colour plates, a foreword by Gareth Wardell, an interview with the artist by Andrew Lambirth and an essay by Bill Hare.
