Yael Bartana

Kings of the Hill, 2003. DVD

Centred on Israeli cultural symbols and rites of socialisation, this work sees the artist assume the position of an anthropologist observing a particular sector of the upper-middle-class male population of a Western culture. Kings of the Hill not only demonstrates their perverse and futile pleasure in macho behaviour, but also highlights the central role that the car and its levels of consumption have come to play in our lives today.
