Hot Spot, 2006
Stainless steel and neon tube

A cage-like steel globe measuring in height and width approximately the same as a person's arm span, and tilted at the same angle as the Earth, Hot Spot operates on various levels. With its continents outlined in glowing red neon, the work suggests that nowadays it is not only contested border zones that are political hot spots: as the artist has said, the ‘whole world is continually caught up in conflict and unrest’. It can also be seen as a comment on global warming.
