Bill Woodrow RA
Small Stuenes Oscillator 19, 2009. Oil on map
Bill Woodrow was inspired to make the Small Stuenes Oscillator series after seeing the aurora borealis (the ‘Northern Lights’) while fishing at midnight in Stuenes in Arctic Norway. The sensation of being anchored to the earth, standing in a moving river, while experiencing these extraordinary light patterns in the sky is apparent in these paintings on printed cloth maps, which suggest civilisation and discovery.
