The Royal Academy Schools is the country’s oldest art school. It has a strong sense of identity, tradition and community, having developed continuously since its foundation in 1768. It is renowned throughout the world as a centre of excellence.

To this day, the Academicians and staff who work in the Royal Academy Schools are practising artists whose work covers a variety of disciplines and media.

Since foundation, the Royal Academy Schools has been led by a practising artist known as the Keeper. Professor Maurice Cockrill RA was elected Keeper in 2004 and his task is to uphold excellence in both tradition and innovation.
