Inspiration: ‘Man and his Joy’- The aim of my project is to capture in a portrait the sense of fulfillment that a person feels while in the presence of their most treasured possession. An interest or treasured object is like a friend to some people, almost like an alter ego, a reflection of who the person is. I have captured a diverse range of artistic individuals within the community of Bridport, Dorset, traveling to them and creating a portrait photograph representing them and their joy in the most superior manner. Over six months I have taken eighteen portraits; each shoot has given me a further understanding into portrait photography and helped me to overcome the emotional barrier between myself and the subject, I now feel at ease when photographing an individual and very much look forward to reaching that point in the shoot when I have communicated with the subject and ‘explored’ them creating a range of shots because of this reciprocity. I am very proud of what I have accomplished on this six-month journey. I have submitted three portrait photographs from my collection, which I believe to be the most admirable shots.
