Name: Alice Campbell
School: Marlborough College
Year: Year 13
Inspiration: I was inspired by Pipilotti Rist's immersive installations at her exhibition 'Eyeball Massage' to try to do my own installation. This way of working appealed to me because of the interaction between the observer and the structure. The boundaries between the two are blurred as the observer becomes part of the work.
Title: Had I rushed back to you too promptly?
Description: This work is a double layered print, with two etching plates printed over one another in pale brown and dark blue, with sections of each plate blocked out to allow different sections of the two images to come through. The drawing on the blue plate is an exploration of the manner in which people in art galleries hold themselves: in a very upright way, completely differently to how people stand in casual situations. The drawing on the brown plate juxtaposes this regulatory and ceremonious aspect of art, as it shows a person standing in my own installation, connecting with the space in an informal and intense manner.
