Inspiration: Since I can remember, I have always loved art. I have been developing and discovering new and exciting techniques for the last four years. I would consider myself as a diverse artist; I enjoy drawing, painting, printmaking, casting, sculpting and much more. Painting wise I feel more comfortable as an artist expressing myself figuratively; some of my inspirations include Edward Hopper and Lucian Freud. On the other hand, working 3 dimensionally is where I feel and work more confidently and intuitively. In contrast to my painting skills, I like to create detailed abstract pieces; some of the artists who have inspired me include Anna Barlow and Valéria Nascimento.

Title: Gathering

Description: I was inspired by the work of both Ai Weiwei and Jeanne Opgenhaffen for this wall mounted ceramic sculpture. I wanted to create a piece of work which would convey a sense of depth and movement. Each single hand cast element was delicately and thoughtfully placed alongside each other, overlapping, creating shades, giving the work the illusion of growth and transforming into one collective work. Each individual piece is tiny and when you first see it you are compelled to look closer at the seeds, drawing you into the sculpture. Depending on the viewers’ height, angle and position you might see something completely different from someone else. The undulating contours create shadows and tones which change and vary everytime it is seen.
