Inspiration: The inspiration for my paintings and mixed media pieces is fuelled solely by my desire to tell a story through a piece of artwork. I am obsessed with painting my perceptions of a space, person or process onto a surface -whether it be reflecting a human personality through the mood and colour of a portrait or capturing the movement and transformation of objects and material through layering and abstraction.

Title: Eliza at home

Description: Taking strong inspiration from the figurative paintings of David Hockney, this painting is all about the contrast of flat planes of pastel colour against refined detail to evoke a sense of light and space. The woman I have painted here, Eliza Parker, is depicted here within her own home and so this piece became an exploration of how a person’s character and experiences are imprinted on the atmosphere of their home. This portrait reflects my perception of Eliza herself – light hearted and vibrant.
