Inspiration: I have always been intrigued by the theme of light and space ever since touching upon these topics while studying Rachel Whiteread at the age of 15. Her work has a magnificent feeling of serenity and stillness but draws the viewer to consider what her work responds to. I find it constantly fascinating how different people’s reaction to space can be, and how it can be represented in so many ways. As for light, I find that light captures mood and emotion and very often goes unnoticed by the audience, even as it sets the scene and captures a feeling for them. I am also heavily influenced in my work by Alexey Titarenko and his interpretation of space, especially looking at how society interacts with it. This recent topic I have been looking at is the renewing of tired objects and giving them new purposes and a new reason to be viewed. This idea follows in the steps of David Nash, yet taking it in the opposite direction in a fresh approach.

Title: Stitched Landscape

Description: Starting my topic on Weathering, i became fascinated at scars that had been formed in the landscape, finding a similarity in Richard Longs work and wondering how i could respond to these scars in my own way. Stitching together came from the idea that clothes get worn by weather, then the get a new lease of life when care is given to them and they may be mended or stitched up. I created this Piece of land art by stitching the land back together with wool.
