Inspiration: Through my work I seek to impart a sense of the abstract nature of life, in order to highlight its thrall. The stylistic nature of this painting was inspired by the work of Robert Joyner and Joan Mitchell; I love the movement of the brushstrokes that feature heavily in their works, as they capture perfectly the subject in a frenzy of thick, varied lines and colour. I enjoy painting in this haphazard, loose and representational style as it allows me to capture expressively the nature of water and reflection; both things which I am fascinated by. The trance that water induces upon the onlooker is strangely alluring, and in my work I wanted to explore this effect through experimentation of texture and tone, and express the raw emotions felt when observing such a commanding force of nature.
