Inspiration: I am influenced by the beauty of colour in my environment, hoping to always bring vibrancy to my work through exploration of this. Henri Matisse has shaped my own art work, as I believe he uses colour and pattern in a dynamic and refreshing way. Light has also been of great inspiration to me, as I love the way that it can conjure a certain mood and manipulate an atmosphere to become something completely different. Finally, I am always fascinated by the story behind the final outcome; the journey it takes to get there. My youth has encouraged me to consider different perspectives and interpretations of art.
Title: Disorder
Description: Taking my inspiration from the concept of the path of life, I wanted to show disorder and the element of chaos which is inherent. Thus I made modroc casts of wooden boxes; the uniform white cubes suggesting conformity and continuity which was inspired by the control in the sculptures of Louise Bourgeois. The white casts are very delicate, conveying the vulnerability and fragility of life. This is disrupted by the juxtaposition of the chaotic arrangement of industrial wire which meanders across the top, intended to show life's erratic and unpredictable course. The layers of boxes on top of one another reflect the different stages which must inevitably be passed through.
