Inspiration: I am currently sitting my final year of A-levels which include Photography, Media Studies and Textiles. A major influence of mine is the desolate countryside in which I am continually surrounded by. The isolated feeling that can be felt in such a bleak environment has contributed to my interest in photographers such as Jem Southam and Alec Soth. I feel they share similar characteristics present in the landscape on my doorstep; they highlight environments that would usually have a blind eye turned upon, they highlight beauty within the ordinary, which has been a strong aspect I have wanted to highlight.
Title: "Beauty Within the Ordinary"
Description: “Beauty Within the Ordinary” is a photograph that formed a project based on highlighting the beauty that can be found in common landscapes, seen everyday. The idea for this project was formed when I began to think about the modernisation of the things around me and how objects that were once of high importance, can be left behind due to the development of more appealing and perhaps damaging materials. Consequently, I formed this project in order to document naturalistic, not staged, environments to highlight the beauty that can be found in landscapes right in front of your eyes. The motionless pheasant captured highly complements the theme of the project; many could relate to this environment, but the photograph has captured the situation in a delicate and subtle manner attracting more attention to an environment that may usually receive little notice. I also decided to capture this project completely in Colour film as I felt that it complemented the detail in the landscapes and also the theme, as I wanted to use a medium to enhance the objective that old technologies are just as good as new.
