Inspiration: As a Fine Art, Textiles and Photography Sixth Form student I find that expressing myself creatively gives me a great sense of satisfaction; allowing me to take the seed of an idea onto further stages where the idea comes to life, displaying a true sense of who I am as an individual. Through this journey, I love knowing that I have taken something that alone is insignificant and turning it into something substantial, worth taking the time to enjoy. Although my preferences lean more heavily towards textiles and more specifically surface printing, I have come to realise that all of my current subject areas work together. I find aspects of my textiles skills applicable to my fine art work and vice versa, while photography aids the development of my work and my ability to record visually. In my experience I have found that I can put all of my skills together to create work that is more individual to me, rather than keeping specific processes to one subject area.
Title: Natural Forms
Description: Within my artwork I like to explore working onto a variety of materials, and within this project I have been inspired by Kevin Baker to work onto oil cloth. The material enabled me to create a sense of transparency in areas of the composition where the patterns from the oilcloth can be seen through, creating a sense of depth beyond the layering of the imagery, while also being able to achieve areas of dense colour, providing a contrast. The imagery that I have included has been taken from the natural environment and painted with both stylised and realistic techniques, which allowed me to build up the composition organically. I really like how the viewer has to look closely at this painting to really make sense of all of the imagery and decipher the layers which have been built up.
