Year: Year 13
Inspiration: I am obsessed with detail. I am particularly drawn to works that are highly intricate. I am highly self critical of my work and feel the constant need to revisit, improve and change it. I never that my work is complete. My room at home is congested with an accumulation of paintings, drawings, designs and various other creations. I keep a sketchbook which I carry everywhere. I feel a need to sketch everything and anything; quirky building facades, intricately patterned churches etc. I remember places I visit by the sketches I make there-they are however not of the conventional tourist sights but more of the subtle yet striking scenes.
Title: Mirage
Description: I was studying trompe l'oiel with specific reference to the work of the artist Ed Ruscha. I created the word 'mirage' from a continuous strip of white satin ribbon. My aim was to create impact with a photorealistic style. I limited myself to the use of two colours, black and white which enabled me to create dramatically exaggerated shadows and highlights.
