Inspiration: I have been studying art now for 7 years, having completed an Art and Design GCSE and now studying Fine Art at A level. As well as art I study Biology, Chemistry and Photography at A level, and play guitar and drums in a number of bands. In my spare time I horseride and read a lot - these activities act as my inspiration, allowing me numerous outlets for my creativity. Most of my artwork is acrylic or pencil but I like to experiment with different mediums, depending on the subject of the piece.

Title: Fluorescent Dog

Description: This piece is part of my Fine Art Personal Study and has stemmed from my observations of how colour influences art. Having looked at Jeff Koons' sculpture 'Puppy' (where the form of the dog is made by numerous flowers on a much larger scale), I decided to change the colours of the animal so that they were completely unnatural. This creates a contrast between the familiar form of the dog, and the unfamiliar colours of the dog - a bright green and pink dog is not something you see everyday and so makes you think twice. Techniques in this piece include longer contouring brush strokes to create the effect of fur, and overlapping two very opposite colours in a convincing way. A dry brush technique was also used, especially in the dog's head, to create a furry texture. This helps to integrate the two opposite colours - the bright magenta and the fluorescent green. Having a plain dark backround, the animal stands out a lot more, adding to the strangeness of the animals colouring.
