Year: Year 13

Inspiration: My main inspiration has always been that of the human face. Portraiture and figure studies are a subject that I have intuitively been drawn towards in my artwork. I find that there is nothing more fulfilling in art than being able to produce a realistic representation of, as well as capturing the true character of the subject’s personality. My second year of A-level has given me the opportunity to experiment with an increasing range of materials. Inspiration has come from artists such as Jenny Saville, R.B. Kitaj, Marc Quinn and Antony Gormley.

Title: SELF PORTRAIT IN JELLY

Description: Photograph of one of a series of self-portraits I made out of jelly using a mould of my own face. This one in particular was created from gelatine with embedded fairy lights. I had been influenced in particular by the work of Marc Quinn in his project ‘self’ where he created a mould of his own head out of his own blood to document the passage of time. My own work was more about the idea of what is inside the human head and experimenting with what effects were produced when objects were suspended in the jelly.

Medium: Photograph of jelly
