Inspiration: My inspiration for this work was principally based on fashion and fashion adverts. The unit title was 'Colour' and I thought that colour is used well in advertisement to explore different emotions and themes. I wanted to look at advertsiement in fashion because it is a topic that interests me. I used three artists to inspire my own work; I looked at Grace O'Conner and her style of very realisitic paintings, David Downtown as a fashion Illustrator to look at the bright vivid colours used in fashion and also the work of Barbara Kruger and the use of overlaying words on images. I looked through many fashion magazines to try look at the postitions of models in adverts and the style of the adverts. One of my main inspirations was my friend Abi, her structured face and defined features made me want to paint her in a fashion advert.
Title: Captured by the City
Description: Here is a image that I have painted of a sunset in Cardiff City, It features a model made out of different colour card, she is wearing a belt which is secured by a lock. She looks restrained but also looks torn with frustration. I wanted to portray not only addiction to the city but also that feeling of being enthralled by it. I looked at the colourful and abstract work of Sarah Hopkins and Anna Marrow for the landscape part of this piece and the work of Egon Schiele for the figerative part of this piece. The topic for this unit was 'Land and Sea', I wanted to look at people with this unit because I believe that people dominate the land and sea, I think this is conveyed well in this piece as the model is of a larger than life size.
