Inspiration: For this piece of work, I have been inspired by shop window displays which I feel affects me personally. Looking at the many different displays I realised how appealing and often exciting the compositions are. The mannequins particularly interested me and I began to think about the way clothes are portrayed using the different poses and types of mannequins in various shops. I looked at Carlo Carrà, whose art is quite abstract and inspired me to push the limits of the generic looking mannequin into something more unusual and wacky. I also looked at Giorgio de Chirico and Man Ray.
Title: 'Strips into Fashion'
Description: After producing the metal sculpture, I developed my ideas further and created a second piece of sculpture; 'Strips into Fashion'. This is made from foamboard, colour cardboard and pins. It achieves a very different effect from the circle sculpture, but portrays another unsual way to represent a mannequin.
