Description: I was influenced by the artist Beryl Cook whilst creating my individual builder illustrations. Her comic, stylised and animated illustrations and paintings of people inspired me to create characters that evoked character, humour and individualism. I have given each of my builders their own identity by naming them, and writing down their favourite snacks that they eat during their tea breaks. I am very interested in sociology and art, and when combined I decided to create a piece where ordinary people are shown in their natural environment in an artistic light. I have taken the ordinary people off the streets, and transformed them into interesting, funny and charismatic pieces of art. Whenever I look at Peter and Norman, I smile because I have created character and identity in two small watercolours that are simplistic yet stylised, and the combinations of their names and favourite foods add humour to their faces. 'Peter' and 'Norman' are real life builders, builders I photographed off the streets and I wanted to add their own personalities into my work. Beryl Cook was my inspiration, because her works are stylised, humorous, colourful and have personality and I like the different types of characters she conveys in her artwork, because they are funny and entertaining. Peter and Norman are part of a small collection of builders that I created, all are named and convey different characters and personalities, and each have their own favourite types of food that they like to eat during their tea breaks
