Inspiration: My piece of work was mainly influenced by David Thorpe who produces collages of beautiful urban scenes made from detailed cut paper shapes of bright colours. His run down urban spaces take on a utopian feel because of the techniques used. My subject matter is of a run down urban dwellings and buildings but it differs from Thorpe in so far as I have also experimented with cut outs as well as collaging shapes of bright colours. My end pieces are photographs of the collages in which I've experimented with lighting and shadows cast due to the cut out shapes. My pieces therefore have both a sinister and an utopian feel which is unsettling. I feel this is an interesting comment to make on urban spaces.
