Name: Shyam Thacker
School: Queen Elizabeth's Boys School-Barnet
Year: Year 12
Inspiration: I am a 16 year old living in London. I am still very much learning and currently in my AS-levels. I am a budding sportsman but have a passion for the arts. It takes me away from my other studies and gives me a chance to be free. More recently, I have looked at artists, such as Helen Chadwick, to appreciate the culture of art. To me, art is more than a subject I study, it is a passion.
Title: The openings
Description: I was looking into a career in medicine and looked at the concept of opening and cutting using a cutting knife. I came across a mattress and felt obliged to look in further. I found this beautiful underlayer and from accidentally pulling back it revealed the inner beauty. The piece resembles the openings into life, or even divulging into the unknown. The simplicity makes it have multiple interpretations. But for sure, it is more than just the beauty you can see.
