Name: Jodie Peters
School: Lytchett Minster School
Year: Year 12
Inspiration: I like sewing, surfing and reading rather a lot and wish to pursue a career in a textile and teaching related field in the future. I appreciate a variety of types of art; I have a keen interest in photography and love the weird and wonderful, as well as the classically famous. I love working with materials and fabrics, as I feel there is a lot that can be done with them. I make some of my own clothes, like skirts, dresses and underwear in my spare time. As far as art goes, I love Kruger, Warhol, Judy Chicago, Nikolaj Recke and Holly levell.
Title: Soft Sculpture Rubik's cube
Description: I created this piece as an extension of my ’objects’ topic. It continues the theme of looking into extinct technology and retro objects that were once at the height of popular culture, and now are completely overlooked. I researched Claes Oldenburg was heavily influenced by his ability to show objects rendered completely useless by modifying a simple element of them. I decided that I would challenge the form of the cube, and I depicted it as useless by completely opposing/disabling its main features; being rock solid and plastic, and movable.
