Name: Lucy Watkins

School: Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar school

Town: Rossendale

County: Lancashire

Year: Year 12

Inspiration: My main influence had to be Frida Kahlo. I took on her technique of painting and portrayed myself in a very naturalistic way. My painting technique was also influenced by Krista Howell, our artist in residence who taught me that every object has a huge range of colours and that giving them this variance in colour brings them to life.

Title: Myself and the Rabbits

Description: As a child I lived on a farm and was constantly outside enjoying nature and wildlife. Wild rabbits live in my garden, and so regularly I tried to get close to the rabbits, without much success. Painting the rabbits close to me shows that I eventually made a connection to them. The exaggeration on the landscape represented the weekends I spent looking out the window dreaming up a fantasy of vibrant colours. The cardigan represents warmth and a sense of home, as once it belonged to my great grandmother.
