Inspiration: I have always been interested in modern art, especially post 1920s. Studying and learning more about the start of modernism and the lifestyle of the 1920s has inspired most of the work I have produced. My ideas have been developed by the inspirations I had from the artists of that time. A major influence on my work is studying philosophy which has helped me to develop a wider view and perspective, be able to take risks with ideas and material, and also raise questions about art which for me is very enjoyable to explore and investigate. For me art is about expressing emotions caused by our experiences through life and it is important to me that I do this to the best of my ability. My ambition in life is to write and produce art works. They both very much affect each other. I enjoy writing stories about paintings and analysing paintings and paint about my writings or even my favourite pieces of poetry or books that I read. Also one of the influential figures for me is Frida Kahlo. Her life and paintings have inspired me very much and taught me a lot about creativity in painting.

Title: Patti Smith Portrait

Description: This piece is inspired by Patti Smith’s portrait. Due to my project I was trying to develop my own style of work through a painting. This idea was inspired by how Jackson Pollock developed his own style of painting by using material in his unique way. I have used Smith’s facial features but changed some of the shapes and also the colours so I can change the ordinary image into my own style. My style in this painting is quiet abstract and colourful, also some of the shapes are out of proportion and to me the whole image seems very dreamlike and not so ordinary, this is because of my inspirations of the surreal content arts. I have purposefully tried not to make the image very realistic therefore it is quiet similar to my own abstract style of work. I really enjoy the freedom and movement of colours in the image which is one of the elements of my style of work.
