Inspiration: I have always been interested in modern art, especially post 1920s. Studying and learning more about the start of modernism and the lifestyle of the 1920s has inspired most of the work I have produced. My ideas have been developed by the inspirations I had from the artists of that time. A major influence on my work is studying philosophy which has helped me to develop a wider view and perspective, be able to take risks with ideas and material, and also raise questions about art which for me is very enjoyable to explore and investigate. For me art is about expressing emotions caused by our experiences through life and it is important to me that I do this to the best of my ability. My ambition in life is to write and produce art works. They both very much affect each other. I enjoy writing stories about paintings and analysing paintings and paint about my writings or even my favourite pieces of poetry or books that I read. Also one of the influential figures for me is Frida Kahlo. Her life and paintings have inspired me very much and taught me a lot about creativity in painting.

Title: The Metamorphosis

Description: This piece was inspired by Kafka’s book, 'The Metamorphosis', which is about Gregor Samsa (the fictional character) turning into a huge insect. This book to me is about the role of man and how people’s view may change due to their condition. My idea is influenced by the men’s fashion style during the 1920s. I have illustrated a pipe and pocket watch which was a part of that style and also representing men, around the human-bug. The insect which has a human face seems very sad as he is no longer able to continue as a male role in life and feels very lost in all these different expectations of him represented by these objects. The piece is a mixed media of magazine collage and illustrations of my own design – the reason I did this as a mixed media is that the meaning behind it is also not very certain and solid.
