Michael Conforti, Director of the Clark Art Institute, tells the story of the private art collectors, Sterling and Francine Clark. Focusing on the works they acquired and the Institute they founded in 1955 to house their collection, he summarises the Institute’s evolution to its current standing as one of the world’s most vital and dynamic centres for both the public appreciation and the scholarly consideration of the visual arts.
