M.A. Ilyin, 'Corner detail of the Narkomfin building', photographed in 1931 Department of Photographs, Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, Moscow Architect and historian Jean-Louis Cohen, (Sheldon H. Solow Professor in the History of Architecture at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York) investigates post-revolutionary Russia and the context for the emergence of this radical new architecture in parallel to contemporary experiments in Europe.
