Douglas Murphy asks 'Whose Future?'

Soapbox Talk

2 August 2013

In Burlington Gardens

Douglas MurphyDouglas Murphy is a writer and critic. He is the author of The Architecture of Failure (Zero, 2012) and writes for many publications including the Guardian, Frieze, RIBA Journal and Building Design. He is architecture correspondent for Icon magazine, and is currently writing Last Futures for Verso.

The architecture of Richard Rogers emerged from a period when the future was malleable, and radical change was very much possible. Viewed from half a century later, have the promises of that period been realised? What was lost along the way, and could it and should it be found again?
