Curator Helen Valentine discusses W. P. Frith’s magnificent painting A Private View at the Royal Academy, 1881 (on loan from the Pope Family Trust), which depicts a number of well-known Victorians visiting the RA’s Summer Exhibition, including the Prime Minister W. E. Gladstone, the actress Elle Terry and the writer Oscar Wilde.

Meet in the Fine Rooms at 3.30pm. Free with an exhibition ticket or £3 for the event only; no booking required.
