Join us for performances, talks, tours and workshops on this day of special activities for all ages as part of the London Festival of Architecture and its theme, The Playful City. Learn about our building, collection and exhibitions through creative hands-on architectural activities for families and specialised talks for adults. Events take place all day throughout Burlington House, from the private spaces of the RA Schools to the grand settings of the Fine Rooms and the Annenberg Courtyard (right).

All events are free unless stated.

Behind the Scenes Tours

Get an insight into aspects of the architecture of the RA’s home.
Burlington House: 12–12.30pm
Sackler Wing of Galleries and the Library: 12.45–1.15pm

Courtyard Dance Performance

A specially commissioned site-specific dance, choreographed by Katie Green, responding to Chris Wilkinson RA’s Annenberg Courtyard installation.

Family Studios

Family drop-in Workshop with Aberrant Architecture

A fun hands-on workshop for all the family inspired by The Playful City theme.
11 am–1pm

Sketching in the Courtyard

Inspired by the grand architecture of Burlington House, artist Jeanette Barnes encourages sketching as a means of understanding the surrounding architecture.

Family Tour of Burlington House

Explore Burlington House with Fran Herrick, searching for clues in the architecture and decoration that reveal the building’s rich and illustrious history.
Meet in the courtyard; 3.30–4pm

RA Explorers Trail

Using an architectural plan as your guide, uncover the architectural wonders of Burlington House together with family members and fellow explorers.
