Patrons' Event
21 September 2012

Courtesy Highclere Castle 11am – 6pm
Location of the award winning Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle has many connections with The Royal Academy. It was refurbished in part in 1842 by architect and Royal Academician Charles Barry. On this phenomenal day trip we will have exclusive use of the State Fine Rooms and the day will include: an introduction to the building by our Chief Executive Charles Saumarez Smith; tea in the salon - the heart of the Castle with a 75ft high glazed ceiling, a magnificent open fireplace and gothic style minstrel gallery; tours of the building and art collection, which includes works by Joshua Reynolds RA, Sir William Beechey RA and Anthony Van Dyck; and a grand lunch in the state dining room, scene of many a drama in the fictional “Grantham” family.
