Patrons’ International Travel: Berlin
31 October — 4 November 2012

Museum Island, courtesy Visit Berlin ©Wolfgang Scholvien Organised by Susie Jubb of SJ Associates, the next in our international travel programme will be a fascinating three day insight into the art and architecture of Berlin. The city’s strong links to the Royal Academy will be explored from our base at the luxurious Hotel de Rome (Rocco Forte Collection), which is well located just off Unter den Linden overlooking Bebelsplatz in the heart of the redeveloped former Eastern sector of the city, close to the Museums and Galleries of Museum Island, the Opera House and the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt.
Practically every contemporary architect of note has contributed to the reconstruction of the city since reunification resulting in some spectacular modern buildings. Private visits will be arranged to some of the greatest art collections in the world, and there are notable collections in private homes. Berlin is a centre for many influential artists and architects, so there will be great opportunity for studio visits and artist tours. It would also be impossible to avoid some reflection on the recent history of the city as well as events in the early to mid 20th Century.
In addition the itinerary will be enhanced by Berlin’s excellent restaurants and top class music and opera.
