Photo © Iwan Baan.} In spring 2014, the Patrons’ International Travel programme will visit Amsterdam for a four day exploration of the cultural history and ties with the Royal Academy of this wonderful city. To stage Van Gogh: The Artist and His Letters in 2009, the Royal Academy developed strong links with the Van Gogh Museum, which houses the largest collection of Van Gogh’s work in the world, including many of his most famous pieces. In addition, a major Rubens exhibition is currently in the planning for 2015, for which works will be travelling from the Rijksmuseum, which has just unveiled a dazzling €375m refurbishment and overhaul of the collection. Opened in 1885, it possesses the most important collection of classical Dutch art in the world, including Rembrandt’s greatest works. Special access for Royal Academy Patrons is being arranged to both of these wonderful museums and others throughout Amsterdam.

As well as fine art, Amsterdam has a rich architectural history which will be explored through architectural walks and viewings of the most important buildings in Amsterdam. The itinerary will be enhanced by fine dining, luxurious accommodation, relaxation alongside Amsterdam’s beautiful canals, visits to extraordinary private collections and working artists’ studios.
