The Yale Center for British Art was one of Louis Kahn’s last designs, completed after his death in 1973. It exemplifies the serene but powerful combination of natural light, space and structure that he achieved in his final works. A famous teacher and a consummate artist, Kahn energised the design with his own passions. This lecture by David Brownlee, Chair of the Department of the History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania, examines the building within the context of Kahn’s designs for education and the arts.
