Kazuyo Sejima, principal of acclaimed Japanese architectural practice SANAA and director of the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale discusses how her practice’s work both frames and echoes its natural surroundings. Of their highly experimental EPFL Rolex Learning Centre in Lausanne with its undulating, sloping floor, Sejima remarked that ‘to crisscross a slope or to climb it with the funicular-like inclined lift is an experience close to being on a hill outdoors’.
