Whitchurch Silk Mill & Sandham Memorial Chapel, Hampshire

Friends Only

26 September 2012

The Whitchurch Silk MillBuilt in 1815, Whitchurch Silk Mill exists much as it did in the nineteenth century. We explore the Victorian building and learn how the mill continues to produce high-quality silks for historic houses, interior designers and theatrical costumes. In the afternoon we visit Sandham Memorial Chapel, which houses a series of paintings by Stanley Spencer RA. The paintings took six years to complete and are considered to be the artist’s finest achievement.
