Whitchurch Silk Mill on the River Test in Hampshire is the last working mill of its kind in the south of England, formerly producing silk for Burberry raincoats and legal gowns. Built during the reign of King George III, the mill continues to produce high-quality silks for historic houses, interior designers and theatrical costumes, including the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Friends also visit the privately owned Welford Park, a mid-seventeenth-century mansion designed by John Jackson of Oxford, with attributed work by Thomas Archer. By special arrangement, Friends take in a guided tour of the house and are fortunate to see it adorned with its impressive Christmas decorations.
