West Wycombe Park is one of the finest examples of Palladian architecture in Europe. Set in perfectly preserved Rococo landscaped gardens, this stunning theatrically Italianate house encapsulates the entire progression of 18th-century architecture, from early Palladian to Neoclassical. The mansion contains a series of 18th-century salons with marble floors, columns and magnificently painted ceilings. Paintings, statues and tapestries adorn the house, many of which belonged to the 2nd Baronet, Sir Francis Dashwood, founder of the infamous Hell Fire Club. We are extremely privileged to be welcomed by Sir Edward Dashwood, who introduces us to the particulars of modern family life living in such a home. By special arrangement we tour the house with James Stourton, Chairman of Sotheby’s UK and an authority on the history of collecting. To complete this special day, historian Keith Perry provides us with an insightful talk about 18th-century aristocratic social history.
