The Munnings Collection and Gainsborough’s House

Friends Only

7 November 2013

Complementing the release of the film ‘Summer in February’, we visit Castle House, the home of Sir Alfred Munnings PRA from 1919 until his death in 1959. The house is a mixture of Tudor and Georgian architecture, and we explore the extensive collection of Munnings’ work. We also visit Gainsborough’s House, where the artist was born in 1727. The house is home to a range of Gainsborough’s work, from early portraits and landscapes to later works from his London period. We also see memorabilia including his studio cabinet, paint scraper and pocket watch.
