Architectural historian, Roger White, takes us to some of London’s most interesting and beautiful Neoclassical villas. We begin with Mount Clare, a small but perfectly designed villa built in 1770 by Sir Robert Taylor. We then view the fine interiors and Jesuit chapel of Parkstead House, designed by Sir William Chambers for the 2nd Earl of Bessborough. After lunch, Friends join Roger on a private visit to Asgill House, one of the first major projects of Sir Robert Taylor. The house has been perfectly restored to its original 18th-century design by the present owner who generously welcomes us into his home. We conclude with Sudbrook Park, one of the earliest Thames-side villas, built on the western edge of Richmond Park by James Gibb for the 2nd Duke of Argyll and Greenwich.
