Stansted Park, Hants
24 March 2009
Friends Only
Rebuilt after a fire in 1903, Stansted Park is the former home of the Bessborough family and is a perfect example of Caroline-Revival architecture. Our private tour includes works by John Hoppner and Angelica Kauffman RA, Spode china, fine Georgian silver, Waterford crystal, and a magnificent Bechstein piano. We also visit Stansted’s extensive ‘below stairs’ area, which is a rare survival of purpose-built Servants’ Quarters. Finally we visit the Chapel of St Paul with its elaborate gilding and blue star-studded ceiling inspired by Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.
9.30am–7pm; £62 (includes coach, set lunch/glass of wine, tea)
