Standen, West Sussex

7 July 2009
Friends Only

This charming Arts and Crafts home, built by the architect Philip Webb in the 1890s for wealthy London solicitor James Beale, opens especially for our private tour. Webb’s careful attention to detail can be seen everywhere, from the chimneystacks to the door plates, and the interior showcases the wallpaper and textiles of his friend William Morris. You will also find lusterware by William De Morgan, cabinets by Agnes and Rhoda Garrett, and a tapestry of St Agnes based on a design by Edward Burne-Jones. After lunch, there will be time to explore the garden, with its views towards Ashdown Forest.

10.15am–6.15pm; £65 (includes coach, set lunch/glass of wine, and light refreshments on coach)
