Originally established as a Benedictine priory in 1210, St Helen’s has been described as the ‘Westminster Abbey of the City’. On our private visit, we learn about its unique design, which includes two parallel naves, and see many fifteenth and seventeenth-century funerary
monuments. St Helen’s is one of the few City churches to have survived the Great Fire and both World Wars, although it sadly suffered extensive damage by IRA bombs in the 1990s and underwent a complete restoration.
