St Albans Cathedral

16 February 2011
Friends Only

The site of St Albans Cathedral is the oldest place of continuous Christian worship in Britain, the present building dating from 1077. During our tour, we examine the contrasting architectural styles from the Saxon period through to the great Victorian restoration by George Gilbert Scott and to the twentieth-century Chapter House. Our visit also includes thirteenth-century wall paintings and the magnificent fourteenth-century Lady Chapel, built entirely in the limestone known as Purbeck marble.
